Welcome to my website which includes clips from a selection of my early landscape films made in the 1970’s and early 80’s in 16mm and Super 8. Work has also been included from photographic commissions, film installations and publications made in collaboration with Roger Polley, spanning a period of 28 years. Clips from a selection of my recent landscape work made in HD digital video have also been included on the website.
My current work since 2009 revives some of the concerns of my earlier films continuing with an investigation of landscape and natural phenomena and issues of representation and perception. Using a fixed frame and hand held camera the work explores issues of time-space and light, focusing on visual transformation, change and transience. Working in ‘Real Time‘, particular emphasis is given to the way in which, through time, changes in light weather and season affect our perception of space and place. Reflexivity is an important consideration in the new work through the spectator’s phenomenological experience of viewing and the contemplation of video and film of a long continuous duration. This includes both the observation of what occurs ‘on screen’ and self observation.
